Blue is for Harmony

The Pacific Rim Cup Bonspiel

Teams from across Canada joined local Vancouver participants in the 2010 version of the Pacific Rim Cup Bonspiel. This was the 27th annual edition of an open bonspiel hosted by the PRCL. For the past several years, a team from California has participated in our bonspiel. This year, they are coming to watch the Olympic curling instead, but still offer their support for our bonspiel. Read all about it in the San Fransisco Examiner newspaper article by clicking here.

Essential Information:

The Bonspiel included a great weekend of activities, both on and off the ice.

Highlights:

Of course, the most important aspect of the bonspiel was curling, and the curling was extremely good, despite some tricky spots in some of the sheets of ice. The A event final was an extremely close game, with the lead shifting back and forth over the course of the game.

Friday night included scrumptuous home-cooked food, and a lounge atmosphere with memorable videos playing in the background. It was a great opportunity to meet and greet old and new friends.

On Saturday, the teams were led onto the ice by a fine piper for the opening ceremonies, followed by the Old Farts Cup. Once again this year, the burger BBQ was a tremendous success. The Saturday evening party featured a "Drag in a Bag" competition, hosted by Bill Monroe. We will never look at some of our members the same way we did in the past; it was unforgettable. You must look at the pictures.

Sunday featured highly competitve curling matches leading up to the finals. In the evening, the banquet at the Holiday Inn featured many surprises. Once again this year, the most valuable prizes were in the Reverse Draw. We greatly appreciate the contribution of our sponsors. The final activity of the week end was the Survivors' Party at the Junction Public House. Those who survived had a fantastic time, and ended the evening being very happy, but very tired.

The Bonspiel was a fantastic event, full of fun for everyone. Next year we'll do it all again, as we say good bye to the "old lady" (the current VCC building), and prepare to move the the new facility.
